Renaissance Festival Makeup

Makeup at the renaissance festival has to work as hard as you play. It’s up against sun, sweat, and selfies. Here is the makeup I actually use for faire on a regular basis.

Tinted Moisturizer with SPF

My go to make my skin look even is Nars Tinted Moisturizer. I’m super pale so I use the lightest shade, and since I’m so pasty the fact that it has an SPF 30 broad spectrum sunscreen built in is super handy. Before I switched to this product, I needed three products. I was using a moisturizer, and sunscreen, and a separate foundation. Now I take care of it all in one step. I think it smells pretty good too. Normally I like to apply it with my fingertips, but I’ll apply it with a brush too. This product has replaced my daily foundation for work too. A little bit goes a long way, so one tube lasts me quite a while helping me justify the price tag. Find it here:

To keep from being shiny, I pair it with Clinque’s pressed powder. I use the Stay Buff color. I’ve been using this stuff for twenty years now.

For my eyes, my friend introduced me to Kat Von D’s Tattoo Eyeliner. It goes on super dark, is easy to apply straight, and stays put during the day. What’s not to like? You can get it here:

My current lipstick obsession is Red Apple Lipstick. The brand originated in Magnolia, Texas so it’s right down the road from the Texas Renaissance Festival. The lipstick itself is smooth, stays well, and the color I bought goes great with skin tone. For anybody with gluten sentitivities, it’s gluten free, which is a plus for me since I have celiac disease. Get it here:

I’ve been experimenting with my mascara lately, but I keep gravitating back to tried and true Maybelline. Nothing fancy, but you can’t go wrong here.

Usually I use my original Naked palette from Urban Decay and it’s always a winner. You can find it here. But recently I forgot my palette at home while we were camping at the Fields of New Market so I’ve been experimenting with some others I picked up at Walgreens.
