Scarborough Renaissance Festival earned a very special place in my heart. Scarborough in Waxahachie, Texas was the first faire I ever went to on April 7, 2001 opening day on a trip with my high school band. An afternoon rain shower cleared the crowds, leaving die hard fans in costume. The aroma of rain on the earth mixed with incense completed the spell to take me back in time to the renaissance. I’d never felt more at home in my life. I was 14. As soon as I turned 16 I drove myself to the faire and explored the lanes.
Scarborough Faire, affectionately called Scarby, has a top notch cast. Check out the Manners and Customs Lecture to learn about life during the renaissance. I have two favorite spots at Scarby, one called Taylor Lane and the other is a tucked away nook down the hill by the creek behind The White Horse Tavern. If you visit the Cat and Fiddle, try out a cider with current, it’s delish.
You can find discount tickets for Scarby at Tom Thumb, and you can find more information here. If you plan on going often try out the Friends of Faire Membership. When I lived in the DFW area, I bought this pass and went almost every weekend. FoF gives access to the faire every day, enterance to the Friends of Faire areas which in the past were stocked with cold water and “swill,” a water and sports drink type of mixture. The hydration alone makes the pass really tempting. The Friends of Faire Membership gives close access parking, which is a lifesaver during May in Texas. Walking across that hot parking field seems endless and boiling after a long day of faire.
Where to Stay?
I’ve stayed in a few of the hotels around Waxahachie, TX. My favorite place to stay right now is the LaQuinta, but I’ve also had pleasant stays at the Super 8 too.
The deals below are offered to help you find great deals to stay in Waxahachie. Unlike some of the other faires in Texas, Scarbourgh does not have on site camping for guests. There is camping for people who work at the faire. The deals below are affiliates, which means we make a small commission at no additional cost to you.
Where to Eat?
My favorite place to eat in Waxahachie is TaMolly’s. The food is delicious. They have gluten free options if that is a challenge you are facing. I ate there with no problems and they are Great Kitchen’s Certified. They are at 1735 US-77, Waxahachie, TX 75165.
